Do I need US work experience before applying?

No. In fact, most US employers hiring through EB-3 Schedule A specifically want Filipino PTs with their Philippine clinical experience — or none at all in the case of new graduates. Therefore, your Philippine PT internship and PRC licensure are recognized as valid clinical preparation.

Can newly licensed Filipino PTs (new graduates) qualify for US PT jobs?

Absolutely. Specifically, fresh graduates from accredited Philippine PT programs can qualify. However, you must complete FCCPT credential evaluation, pass the NPTE, meet state licensure requirements, and obtain VisaScreen® certification. In fact, many US employers specifically hire entry-level Filipino PTs and provide structured mentorship.

How long does the process take?

It can take several months to a few years depending on exam preparation, licensing, and visa processing. Most Filipino PTs are able to go to the United States within 2 or 3 years*. Duration may vary as each applicant has a unique journey and credential requirements.

Do employers sponsor visas in the United States for physical therapists?

Can a Filipino physical therapist work in the US without a DPT?

Yes. Specifically, a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (BSPT) or Master of Science in Physical Therapy (MSPT) from an accredited Philippine university is accepted in most US states after FCCPT credential evaluation. Therefore, a US Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree is not required. However, New York is the exception and uses stricter equivalency rules.
